Major Responsibilities and Expectations:

·Patient restraint.

·Check in patients for scheduled appointments, technician appointments, and drop offs – ask the appropriate questions for each and input it into AVImark

·Draw up vaccines for appointments

·Prepare the necessary items needed for exams – schirmer tear test, fluorescein stain, black light, sterile cotton swabs, proparacaine etc.

·Assist in the taking of x-rays and ultrasound

·Monitor and collect urine and fecal samples as needed

·Monitor, record, and report physical signs of hospitalized pets

·Clean cages, runs, and hospital facilities, including exam rooms, treatment room, break room, bathroom, surgery and doctor’s office

·Check in with the following daily: RX line, client questions/concerns notes, AllyDVM, lab call backs, worklists, prescription line and treatment plans.

·Provide clean bedding, water and litter pans for pets

Must be able to safely and competently operate equipment pertinent to carrying out their duties, including but not limited to laboratory equipment, anesthesia and dental equipment, and the x-ray machine.

Excellent customer service skills and phone etiquette.

Help the doctor treat patients; assist in medical or surgical procedures such as irrigating wounds, medication, cleansing wounds, and bandaging.

Perform in-clinic deworming, medication administration, record patient weights, temperatures, and respiratory rates; record observations on patient status such as nature and amount of vomitus, bowel movements, and urinations+/-blood. Perform ear cleanings, dental cleanings for dogs and cats. Monitor and record vital signs on all patients.

Admit and discharge patients on the doctor’s orders, being especially careful to ensure that patients being discharged are in a medically appropriate state, well-groomed, and looking as good or better than on arrival.Answer client questions one-on-one on various aspects of animal care.Pass on information/advice from the practitioners; explain dosage/purpose of medications; reinforce through discussion the proper care and procedures that should be followed at home.

·Help doctor administer/calculate anesthetics using aseptic technique, prepare patients for surgery; monitor patients during surgery and recovery; assist in surgery; administer fluids; perform support IV therapy to patients in surgery and post-op; reset treatment area and surgical suite to get ready for the next patient.

·Properly clean, pack and autoclave all surgical materials after they are used.Keep the operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery. Wrap surgical gowns and packs

·Perform clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal quadfectra, heartworm tests, skin scrapings, urinalysis, fungal cultures, draw blood for laboratory analysis. Prepare samples for shipment to laboratory and prepare laboratory forms. Perform other in-house tests. Follow through to ensure testing is completed and results are given to DVM.

·Prepare for office hours by stocking exam rooms, treatment area, and recovery with necessary supplies

Be familiar with the following: charges, preparing treatment plans for clients, educate clients on PAW Plans, Avimark record-keeping process and be able to enter charges for all hospitalized/drop off and regular exam cases.

Assist the customer services representatives when necessary.

General janitorial duties are also included but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, laundry, dusting, re-stocking, taking out trash, etc. Ensuring equipment is properly cleaned, shut down, oxygen tanks are shut off and clinic is secured/alarm set if you are the last to leave.

Carry out all duties in a professional and courteous manner and remain respectful and polite in speech, tone, and actions under all circumstances, delegating duties to qualified team members when necessary while maintaining supervision of your assigned duties to see that all tasks are done properly

Remain flexible and willing to implement new or changing procedures in the future

Demonstrating knowledge of veterinary practices, procedures, and terminology; Appropriately handling and restraining animals;Reading medical charts and record procedures and treatments;Demonstrating basic knowledge of medications and their side effects;Professionally and compassionately addressing each client’s needsAbility to multi-task and juggle multiple work streams (change gears quickly) while setting/managing priorities and providing consistent follow through.

Communicate in a clear, concise, understandable manner

Effective listening skills and an eye for quality, accuracy and attention to detail
