Who We Are

Old Derby Animal Hospital is a trusted leader in personalized veterinary care and we take the same intentional approach with our team. Our leadership is hands-on and invested: we coach, develop, and grow our people. You'll find competitive pay, real benefits (health, time off, retirement, paid CE, and staff discounts), and a team that genuinely has each other's backs. What you won't find? Drama.

The Role

We're growing our team and looking for a Veterinary Medical Assistant to work alongside our veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and clients every day. This is a high-impact, hands-on role spanning our outpatient exam rooms, pharmacy, radiology, and in-house laboratory.

You'll be in the middle of the action- handling patients, relaying critical information, supporting cases, and helping everything run smoothly. We'll make sure you're fully trained on every task we ask of you, and with paid Continuing Education and clear pathways for advancement, this role is built for someone ready to grow.

What You'll Bring

  • Real experience in an animal hospital or veterinary clinic setting- this isn't an entry-level role, and that background matters.
  • A foundational working knowledge of veterinary medicine: terminology, workflows, and patient handling.
  • Sharp attention to detail and the ability to follow direction. Questions welcome!
  • Strong communication skills- you absorb information quickly and relay it clearly and confidently.
  • Accountability: you own your work, outcomes and all.
  • A team-first mindset- we're collaborative, not competitive, and we don't have room for anything that pulls focus from patient care.
  • Genuine passion for animals and the people who love them.

Why Old Derby

  • Competitive compensation + full benefits package.
  • Paid Continuing Education — we invest in your career, not just your shift.
  • Clear growth pathways within the practice.
  • A cohesive, high-performing team that takes the work seriously and brings passion to everything we do.

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
  • 401(k) matching
  • Dental insurance
  • Employee discount
  • Health insurance
  • Health savings account
  • Paid time off
  • Uniform allowance
  • Continuing Education Allowance

Requirements:

  • Experience working with animals in a veterinary or other professional setting
  • The ability to bend, squat, stand and life 40lbs
  • Availability to work some evening (8pm) and weekend hours.
