Apple Valley Animal Hospital is a full-service Veterinary Hospital serving Winchester and surrounding communities for over 30 years. We are looking to add a veterinary assistant who can also cover the front desk when needed!

We are looking for a fun, mature, and skilled veterinary assistant and/or CSR with minimum 1 years’ experience to join our Apple Valley Animal Hospital team. The Veterinary Assistant supports the hospital by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and extraordinary service to our patients and clients. As an Apple Valley Animal Hospital team member, you will fully assist the DVMs to help improve the quality of care to the patients by relieving them of technical work based on your education and/or experience, achieving greater efficiency within the hospital.
What You’ll Be Working On:
- Engaging and communicating with clients
- Primary job functions include animal restraint, blood draws, assembly of surgical suite and instruments, venipuncture, administration of medication; answering phones; making appointments, and checking clients in and out.
- Monitor patient conditions during treatments, procedures or activities
- Perform laboratory tests to assist in diagnosis and treatment
- Getting and maintaining patient information
- Fill prescriptions and administer PO, SQ, IM, IV medications, including proper documentation, logging, and labels
- Maintaining supply and equipment inventory
- Grow your skills with training, mentorship, and continuing education
- We see a variety of animals – ensuring no day will be the same! Dogs, Cats, Pocket Pets, Reptiles, etc!
- Schedule – Full Time Hours (30+), 4-day work weeks, Closed weekends and major holidays
*Duties and Skills detailed above will be based on education and licensing of the individual*
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1-years experience performing above duties preferred, but other work in the veterinary or animal care field will be considered.
- Experience in surgical and dental procedures is a plus
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs and calculations
- Able to perform moderately physically demanding work, that requires lifting (up to 50 pounds), cleaning, and constant motion
- Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors
- Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for building relationships
- Not afraid to jump in and get your feet wet! A hard worker who takes initiative and contributes to the operation of the entire hospital, you will help get all the daily duties done!
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Passion for Customer Service and Hospitality
- Positive attitude and TEAM Player personality
- Ability to work at the front desk on a rotating basis
- Ability to execute treatment orders as directed by a DVM
- Safely restrain patients for various types of treatments and procedures
- Adaptable to the demands of the day
- Ability to work efficiently, and remain calm during stressful situations
