Veterinary Technician

Position Summary
The Veterinary Technician plays a critical role in supporting veterinarians and ensuring high-quality patient care. This position involves assisting with medical procedures, patient monitoring, client communication, and maintaining a clean, efficient hospital environment. Veterinary Technicians serve as a key link between the doctor, patient, and client.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Nursing

• Safely restrain animals for exams and procedures
• Obtain and record patient histories, vitals, and weights
• Monitor hospitalized patients and report changes promptly
• Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed
• Provide compassionate care to all patients

Surgical & Dental Support

• Prepare patients for surgery (IV catheter placement, pre-medication, etc.)
• Monitor anesthesia and patient vitals during procedures
• Assist veterinarians in surgery and dental procedures
• Perform dental cleanings and take dental radiographs (if applicable)

Diagnostics & Laboratory

• Collect blood, urine, fecal, and other samples
• Run in-house lab work and prepare samples for outside labs
• Take and process radiographs

Client Communication & Education

• Clearly explain treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions
• Educate clients on preventative care, nutrition, and follow-up needs
• Answer client questions with professionalism and empathy

Hospital Operations

• Maintain a clean, organized treatment area and exam rooms
• Properly handle and maintain medical equipment
• Ensure accurate and thorough medical recordkeeping
• Assist with inventory and stocking as needed

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a veterinary setting required 
• Strong knowledge of animal handling, restraint, and basic nursing care
• Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and restrain animals of various sizes
• Comfort standing for long periods and performing physically demanding tasks
• Ability to handle exposure to animals, chemicals, and medical equipment
