Floor Lead Veterinary Technician
Position Title: Floor Lead Veterinary Technician
Department: Clinical Operations
Reports To: Practice Manager & Medical Director
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Summary
The Floor Lead Veterinary Technician is responsible for coordinating the daily flow of patients, supporting the veterinary team, and ensuring exceptional patient care and client service. This role serves as a clinical leader on the hospital floor, providing mentorship, guidance, and real-time support to veterinary technicians and assistants while helping maintain efficiency and adherence to hospital standards.
The ideal candidate is a skilled veterinary technician with strong leadership abilities, excellent communication skills, and a passion for developing team members and delivering high-quality medicine.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Serve as the primary clinical lead during assigned shifts.
- Coordinate patient flow between appointments, treatment, surgery, and discharge.
- Support veterinarians during examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and surgical procedures.
- Ensure patient care standards and hospital protocols are consistently followed.
- Monitor patient safety and quality of care throughout the hospital.
Team Support & Development
- Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and mentorship to veterinary technicians and assistants.
- Assist with training and onboarding new team members.
- Help identify workflow challenges and implement solutions.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable team culture.
- Serve as a resource for clinical questions and technical skill development.
Operations & Workflow Management
- Assign and prioritize daily tasks to ensure smooth hospital operations.
- Assist with managing treatment and appointment schedules.
- Monitor staffing needs and communicate operational concerns to leadership.
- Ensure treatment areas, exam rooms, and equipment are clean, stocked, and functional.
- Support inventory management and supply organization.
Client Service
- Promote exceptional client communication and patient advocacy.
- Assist with client education regarding treatments, medications, and discharge instructions.
- Address client concerns professionally and escalate issues when appropriate.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 3 years of veterinary clinical experience.
- Advanced technical skills including venipuncture, catheter placement, radiology, laboratory procedures, anesthesia monitoring, and patient nursing care.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Previous lead, supervisory, or mentoring experience.
- Experience with electronic medical records and practice management software.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and restrain animals up to 50 pounds independently and larger animals with assistance.

- Exposure to animal-related hazards, including bites, scratches, and zoonotic diseases.
