We are seeking a strong GL Accounting Manager to lead core general ledger accounting activities and help elevate the capabilities, processes, and effectiveness of the accounting team.

Job Description

The GL Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day general ledger accounting activities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial results, and leading the team through the monthly close process. This role serves as a key bridge between accounting staff and Finance leadership, providing technical guidance, quality control, problem resolution, and concise financial reporting to management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of accountants, providing direction, coaching, performance management, and opportunities for professional growth.
  • Own and oversee key components of the monthly close process, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Review and approve journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and variance analyses for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Serve as the first level of escalation for accounting questions and issues, reducing the need for management intervention.
  • Partner with FP&A, Operations, AP, Treasury, Procurement, Legal, and other business functions to resolve accounting issues and improve financial processes.
  • Support accounting system initiatives, including Oracle ERP enhancements, integrations, system changes, and process transformations.
  • Identify trends, unusual activity, and hard-to-detect errors within complex accounts and determine appropriate corrective action.
  • Take ownership of assigned accounting areas and follow issues through to resolution without requiring ongoing management follow-up.
  • Assist with ad hoc financial analysis, technical accounting research, special projects, and other initiatives as needed.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • 2+ years of experience leading, supervising, or managing accounting professionals.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and general ledger accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience with month-end close, accrual accounting, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial analysis.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, indirect functions, and PivotTables.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently assess accounting issues, determine root causes, and recommend solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial matters clearly and concisely.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, MBA, or equivalent professional designation.
  • Experience managing accounting teams in a complex, multi-entity environment.
  • Experience supporting both private and public accounting environments.
  • Experience with Oracle Fusion or another large-scale ERP system.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls and audit requirements.

FLSA Status: Exempt, Salaried
Base Salary: $108,000-148,500
Annual Incentive Plan: 15%
