Back Cove Animal Hospital is looking for a Veterinary Technician with 2+ years of veterinary hospital experience to join our welcoming and collaborative team in Portland, Maine.

What You'll Do


This is a hands-on Veterinary Technician role supporting both the front end and back end of the hospital. You'll help keep the day moving efficiently while providing excellent patient care and supporting our veterinarians.


Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting veterinarians during appointments and treatments
  • Preparing patients and treatment areas
  • Patient handling and restraint
  • Anesthesia monitoring and recovery
  • Caring for hospitalized patients
  • Preparing patients for procedures
  • Assisting with surgical and dental procedures
  • Supporting patient discharges and client education
  • Obtaining diagnostic radiographs
  • Performing in-house laboratory work
  • Maintaining accurate medical records
  • Helping maintain efficient daily hospital flow
  • Working collaboratively with the entire team to provide excellent patient care

What We're Looking For


We're looking for an experienced Veterinary Technician who is:

  • 2+ years of experience working in a veterinary hospital
  • CVT, LVT, or RVT credentialed is a plus, but not required
  • Comfortable supporting veterinarians in appointments and treatment
  • Confident with patient care, recovery, and hospital flow
  • A strong communicator who enjoys working with clients and coworkers
  • Reliable, organized, and comfortable in a busy veterinary environment
  • Team-oriented and willing to jump in wherever needed
  • Committed to providing a high level of patient and client care
  • Able to lift approximately 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
