Veterinary Technician
Symphony Vet Center
170 W 96th St, New York, NY 10025
$35–$37/hour | 4-day workweek | $1,000 sign-on bonus
Symphony Vet Center is looking for an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to join our close-knit team on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. CVTs and RVTs are encouraged to apply if you are eligible to transfer your license to New York State.
We are a well-established, community-focused veterinary hospital that has proudly served the neighborhood for 30 years. While we are part of a larger organization, we have maintained the welcoming, personal feel of a neighborhood practice where team members know one another, support each other, and genuinely enjoy coming to work.
We are looking for a Veterinary Technician with 2+ years of experience, particularly someone who enjoys surgical nursing and wants the opportunity to build skills across multiple areas of the hospital. New graduates who are eager to learn are also welcome to apply.
Compensation & Schedule
- Veterinary Technician/LVT: $35–$37/hour
- Lead LVT: $35–$40/hour, based on experience
- $1,000 sign-on bonus
- 4-day workweek
- Saturdays are currently every other Saturday
What You'll Do
Our technicians rotate through different areas of the hospital rather than being assigned to one station every day. This gives our team variety, opportunities to continue developing their skills, and the ability to support one another throughout the hospital.
Responsibilities may include:
- Providing compassionate, high-quality nursing care to patients
- Assisting with surgical procedures and anesthesia
- Preparing patients for surgery and monitoring them throughout procedures and recovery
- Performing laboratory and diagnostic procedures
- Administering medications and treatments
- Completing prescription refills and communicating medication instructions
- Assisting with appointments and patient care
- Maintaining accurate medical records
- Rotating through floor technician, surgery, pharmacy/refills, and other technician responsibilities
- Supporting doctors and fellow technicians throughout the hospital
- Providing exceptional client service and education
- Following Fear Free and low-stress handling techniques
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment
A Fear Free, Low-Stress Approach
Patient comfort is a major priority at Symphony Vet Center. Our team follows Fear Free practices, with an emphasis on low-stress handling and creating a calm environment for our patients.
Our hospital includes a dedicated feline-only room, and our team is passionate about making veterinary visits as comfortable and positive as possible for all patients and their families.
About Our Team
If you're looking for a veterinary hospital where you can actually get to know your coworkers, this may be the place for you.
We have a strong technician tenure and a close-knit team culture. We work hard, but we also make time to have fun together. Throughout the year, we participate in seasonal team-building activities and other events that bring the team together.
Once a month, we even close the hospital for a team "Yappy Hour", where we enjoy dinner together while discussing a medical topic and participating in team learning and CE.
We're also deeply connected to our Upper West Side community.
Symphony Vet Center partners with local businesses, hosts open houses, and has a special cat window where cats from local shelters can spend time at the hospital while waiting for their forever homes. We particularly love showcasing older cats who have been waiting longer to be adopted.
The window has become a neighborhood favorite — local families and kids stop by to see the cats — and it's just one of the ways our hospital has become part of the community over the past 30 years.
Growth Opportunities
We believe in developing our technicians and creating opportunities for growth.
For an experienced technician with leadership experience or an interest in taking the next step in their career, there is an opportunity to grow into a Lead LVT role.
The Lead LVT will have opportunities to support the technician team, help with workflow and training, and contribute to the continued development of our hospital.
What We're Looking For
Required:
- New York State LVT license, or eligibility to obtain/transfer a veterinary technician license to New York
- 2+ years of veterinary technician experience preferred
- Strong interest or experience in veterinary surgery and anesthesia
- Comfortable working in a team-based environment
- Excellent communication and patient-care skills
- Commitment to Fear Free and low-stress handling practices
- Ability to work a rotating Saturday schedule
We'd also love to hear from you if you're:
- A CVT or RVT looking to transfer your credential to New York State
- A new graduate veterinary technician eager to learn and grow
- An experienced technician interested in developing into a Lead LVT
- Someone who enjoys variety and wants to rotate through different technician responsibilities
