Job Summary
The Animal Care Center of Polaris is looking for a versatile and compassionate part-time Veterinary Assistant / Receptionist to join our team. In this dual role, you will be the face of our clinic, greeting clients and managing the front desk, while also providing vital hands-on support to our medical team in the back. The ideal candidate is an excellent multitasker who thrives in a fast-paced environment, loves interacting with people, and is dedicated to providing high-quality care to animals.
Key Responsibilities
Front Desk & Reception (Approx. 50%)
·Client Experience: Greet clients warmly, check patients in and out, and answer multi-line phone calls with a professional, friendly demeanor.
·Scheduling & Records: Schedule appointments, surgeries, and drop-offs efficiently using our clinic software. Maintain accurate electronic medical records.
·Financial Duties: Process payments, manage invoices, and explain basic estimates or bills to clients.
·Pharmacy Support: Refill prescriptions under veterinary supervision and manage front-desk inventory.
Clinical Assistance (Approx. 50%)
·Patient Restraint: Safely and compassionately restrain dogs, cats, and exotic companion pets during exams, blood draws, and medical procedures.
·Clinic Flow: Prep exam rooms between patients, escort clients to rooms, and obtain initial vital statistics (weight and patient history).
·Sanitation & Safety: Maintain a clean, sterile environment by disinfecting exam tables, surgical suites, and kennels according to hospital protocols.
·Lab Support: Assist in preparing laboratory samples (fecal, urine, blood) and standardizing equipment.
Qualifications & Skills
·Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal care facility. Experience with customer service or medical reception is a strong plus.
·Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a Veterinary Assistant certificate program is an asset.
·Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted and stand or walk for long periods.
·Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication skills, emotional intelligence, and a calm demeanor during high-stress or emergency situations.
