Governors Avenue Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician Supervisor to lead our technician and support teams during an exciting period of growth and transformation under new leadership.

For decades, Governors Avenue Animal Hospital has been a trusted part of the Dover community, providing compassionate, high-quality veterinary care. This role is ideal for an experienced veterinary technician who is passionate about leadership, team development, operational excellence, and patient care. As Veterinary Technician Supervisor, you will serve as a key member of the hospital leadership team, helping to develop staff, improve workflows, drive accountability, and create a positive and collaborative culture where both patients and team members thrive.

Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs) are strongly preferred. Candidates should possess at least five years of veterinary technician experience, with previous leadership, lead technician, or supervisory experience highly preferred.


About the Role

The Veterinary Technician Supervisor provides hands-on leadership and oversight for the hospital's veterinary technicians and support staff. This position combines clinical expertise with leadership responsibilities and plays a critical role in ensuring exceptional patient care, efficient hospital operations, and a positive team environment.

The successful candidate will lead training and onboarding initiatives, support performance management, establish clear expectations and accountability standards, and partner closely with hospital leadership to develop systems and processes that promote consistency and efficiency throughout the practice.

Team Leadership & Staff Development

  • Provide daily leadership, mentorship, coaching, and support to veterinary technicians and support staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance coaching, corrective action, and development discussions as needed.
  • Assist with performance evaluations and individual development planning.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen team skills and improve overall performance.
  • Support continuing education and professional growth initiatives.
  • Promote a positive, respectful, and collaborative workplace culture.

Training & Onboarding

  • Lead onboarding and training for new veterinary technicians and support staff.
  • Develop and maintain a structured technician training program and skills curriculum.
  • Establish training checklists, competency standards, and career development pathways.
  • Partner with hospital leadership to identify ongoing training needs.
  • Create opportunities for team members to advance professionally within the organization.

Operations & Workflow Management

  • Oversee daily technician staffing, workflow coordination, and resource utilization.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing coverage to support patient care and hospital operations.
  • Evaluate workflow challenges and implement practical solutions to improve efficiency.
  • Coordinate communication between client service representatives, technicians, and doctors to enhance patient flow.
  • Help maintain a smooth, organized, and productive hospital environment.

Process Improvement & Quality Standards

  • Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Standardize technician workflows and patient-care support processes.
  • Reinforce hospital standards for patient care, safety, communication, and professionalism.
  • Monitor operational effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, team engagement, and the client experience.

Leadership Partnership

  • Serve as a member of the hospital leadership team and a trusted resource for staff.
  • Partner with hospital management on staffing, scheduling, performance management, and team development.
  • Assist in addressing day-to-day operational challenges and employee concerns.
  • Communicate effectively across departments to support a solutions-oriented work environment.
  • Help drive hospital goals, strategic initiatives, and culture-building efforts.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of 5 years of veterinary technician experience.
  • Strong understanding of veterinary medicine, patient care, and hospital operations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and hold team members accountable.
  • Strong problem-solving and time-management abilities.
  • Passion for team development and leadership.

Preferred

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT).
  • Previous experience as a Lead Technician, Technician Supervisor, or similar leadership role.
  • Experience with staff training, onboarding, and performance management.
  • Experience developing workflows, SOPs, and operational processes.

Schedule & Compensation

Schedule

  • Full-time
  • Monday-Friday
  • Rotating Saturdays

Hospital Hours

  • Monday-Friday: 8:00 AM-6:00 PM
  • Saturday: 8:00 AM-12:00 PM

Compensation Starting at $25.00 per hour, with higher compensation available based on experience, licensure, leadership experience, and overall qualifications.
