Position Summary:
The Veterinary Technician plays a vital role in supporting veterinarians and ensuring the highest quality of care for patients. This position involves assisting with medical procedures, providing patient care, educating clients, and maintaining a clean and efficient clinic environment.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care:
Prepare animals for exams, surgeries, and treatments.
Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures.
Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
Technical Skills:
Perform diagnostic tests (e.g., bloodwork, radiographs, fecal exams).
Place IV catheters, collect samples, and assist with anesthesia and surgical monitoring.
Operate and maintain medical equipment.
Client Communication:
Educate pet owners on preventive care, nutrition, medications, and post-procedure instructions.
Provide compassionate and professional support to clients during difficult situations.
Hospital Support:
Maintain accurate patient records and treatment logs.
Assist with inventory management and restocking of supplies.
Help ensure cleanliness and organization of all treatment and patient areas.
Qualifications
Education: Veterinary Technology degree or equivalent training.
Certification: Licensed/Registered/Certified Veterinary Technician (if applicable in state).
Experience: Prior experience in a veterinary clinic preferred but not always required.
Skills:
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Compassionate and detail-oriented approach to patient care.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift animals up to 50 lbs (with assistance for heavier pets).
Comfort with handling animals of all sizes and temperaments.
Ability to stand, kneel, and bend for extended periods.
Work Schedule & Environment
Typical schedule includes weekdays, occasional evenings, and some weekends or holidays as needed.
Work is performed in a veterinary clinic setting with potential exposure to pets, allergens, and biohazard materials.
