About Manzano:

Manzano Animal Clinic is in the northeast heights of beautiful Albuquerque, New Mexico. We are a small animal hospital serving the dogs and cats of our community since 1963. Throughout the years, we have developed and maintained a reputation as a high-quality practice. Our doctors are encouraged to share knowledge and opinions and treat each hospitalized patient with a cooperative effort.

Our team of experienced Veterinarians and skilled support staff is passionate about mentoring veterinary students and helping them grow in confidence and clinical ability. You'll gain hands-on experience while being truly integrated into our team.

What You’ll Learn:
Externs will work side-by-side with our team and receive one-on-one mentorship in areas such as:

  • Conducting patient histories and physical exams
  • Developing diagnostic and treatment plans
  • Performing and assisting with surgical and dental procedures
  • Providing inpatient care and client education
  • Practicing communication and teamwork with both staff and pet owners

Whether you're refining your clinical skills or building confidence in patient interaction, you’ll be empowered to take an active role in daily case management.

Program Overview:
📍 Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
🕒 Duration: minimum 3 weeks, up to 8 weeks (based on clinic and student availability)
🎓 Open to: 3rd and 4th year veterinary students
💵 Stipend: Up to $1,500 for eligible students in the clinical portion of their education
